LinkedIn Short Post

Purpose

Present one substantive observation or argument in a form suitable for professional social distribution.

Required Characteristics

  • Make one primary argument.
  • Open with a concrete observation, event, or personal experience.
  • Develop the argument rather than merely announcing it.
  • Use short paragraphs appropriate for screen reading.
  • Remain complete without requiring the linked article.
  • Create a natural reason to continue to the long-form piece when one exists.

Structure

A typical artifact contains:

  1. Concrete opening
  2. Interpretation
  3. Development through evidence or example
  4. Consequence or broader implication
  5. Earned conclusion

This is guidance, not a mandatory five-part template.

Constraints

  • No engagement bait.
  • No manufactured controversy.
  • No hashtags unless explicitly requested.
  • No numbered list unless the material genuinely requires one.
  • No generic call to action.
  • No unsupported claims.
  • Avoid repeating the title of the linked essay as the opening sentence.

When linking to a longer article:

  • The post must provide standalone value.
  • Do not summarize the entire article.
  • End where the reader has enough context to understand why the deeper treatment matters.
  • Introduce the link plainly rather than using clickbait.

Validation

  • Is there one identifiable argument?
  • Does the opening arise from the subject rather than a hook formula?
  • Does every paragraph advance the argument?
  • Is the conclusion earned?
  • Would the post remain worthwhile if the reader never clicked?
